The Burnout Breakdown
Written by Sarah Reilly, CNC on June 17th 2020
Burnout is finally being recognized as a ‘real’ thing in the work place.  The situation is so widespread in developed countries that the WHO has added burnout to its list of globally recognized diseases.  In 2019, Burnout was included in the 11th Revision of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) as an occupational phenomenon.

As defined, “burnout” is a syndrome resulting from chronic job stress that has not been successfully managed.  It is characterized by three dimensions:

     1) Feelings of energy depletion or exhaustion
     2) Increased mental distance from one’s job, or feelings of negativism or cynicism related to                 one's job
     3) Reduced professional efficacy

Unfortunately, the focus is solely on mental health.  While that is all very valid, there are other elements that are sorely excluded when looking at the global impact on a person experiencing burnout.

In my work, I see the global impact on a person’s body.  By global, I mean ‘systemwide’ in their body, with a main thread to their ‘breaking point’, where the breakdown of their body began.

You see, as you maintain high stress, you secrete cortisol from prolonged high stress.  It draws energy for the organs and impacts various systems stressing them out too.  This all becomes a system wide burden, day in, day out, as the stress is endured, and it’s like the falling of dominoes. Suddenly, one day you think, “my gas tank is empty…I just CAN’T do or take anymore”.  You may notice things like:

     -Digestive Distress
     -Blood Sugar imbalance
     -Blue moods
     -Brain Fog/cloudy thinking
     -Restless Unrestorative sleep
     -Heart palpitations
     -Belly Fat and stubborn weight
     -Muscle and joint pain
     -Ongoing fatigue
     -Afternoon exhaustion

If you related to even ONE of these, you may be in the process of “BURNOUT BREAKDOWN”.  Yes, you may still be going along in life just fine and ‘getting by’, but behind the scenes in your body, there is a breakdown of physiological systems.  The longer this goes on, the more you deplete organ reserve, decrease immunity, drive inflammation, and set yourself up for the pathway to chronic disease and accelerated aging.

It is common for people to come to me who have already developed autoimmunity, heart disease, diabetes, etc.  Their body has already lost optimal organ reserve, adrenal and immune resilience, and their internal systems are functioning off of low level reserves that have resulted in dis-ease. Don’t let this happen to you.  Nip it in the bud NOW.  And if you already have a progressed condition, then definitely get on it NOW.  You CAN turn this around and reclaim your vitality, faster than you even know possible.

Experiencing burnout?  Don’t make the mistake of assuming it will just get better.  Once this ‘breakdown’ begins in the body, it is complex and impacts a variety of systems in your body that must be addressed by a skilled clinician to unravel the layers of impact.

I’m here to help you and shorten the time it takes to reboot and reclaim your health and vitality. No fluff, just what works.
